Responsible choices as standard

Homes where sustainability meets comfort

Step into a sustainable future with us

We build sustainable homes

Our goal is to create a sustainable built environment where both people and nature can thrive for decades to come. We aim to make construction smoother and more sustainable. Doing things faster and right the first time saves the environment, improves comfort, and increases productivity in building.

We protect the environment by designing and building efficiently

With good planning and smooth execution, it’s possible to reduce the environmental impact of construction significantly. When a building and its spaces are designed optimally with users’ needs in mind, they last longer, which also lowers the environmental load throughout the building’s entire life cycle.

Environmentally responsible choices in every project

Energy class A

Energy-efficient buildings are environmentally friendly and help save money on energy costs. We build all new homes for consumer sales to meet energy class A standards.

Solar panels

Self-produced energy from solar panels is used to cover the building’s electricity needs. We install solar panels in our projects whenever possible.

Geothermal heating

Geothermal heating brings comfort and savings – while caring for the environment. We choose geothermal heating for Kotona homes whenever possible.

Water-saving taps and appliances

In Fira homes, every water point is designed with both the environment and your wallet in mind. Water-saving taps, showers, and appliances reduce unnecessary consumption without compromising comfort. Dishwashers automatically optimize water use, and taps are equipped with flow restrictors that save up to 30% of water per use.

Recycling solutions for homes and housing companies

In Fira homes, residents have easy and eco-friendly ways to recycle waste.

Towards carbon-free construction

We minimize emissions during construction.

Green electricity & use of renewable energy on construction sites

We primarily use certified renewable electricity on our construction sites. We measure and monitor the purchased energy consumption for each site individually.

For site heating, we aim to use fossil-free heating methods and connect to the building’s final heating system as early as possible.

Waste recycling on the construction site

Reducing the amount of construction and demolition waste and improving recycling rates are key goals in our environmental work. We prevent material waste and ensure that construction waste is recycled to a high standard. A small amount of waste and proper sorting is cost-efficient and helps protect nature.

On Fira sites, we currently sort more than 17 types of waste. Every new site prepares an environmental plan that covers waste management and overall environmental responsibility on the site.

In 2024, our recycling rate for construction and demolition waste was 86%.

We calculate the carbon footprint of our apartments.

We calculate the carbon footprint for all our housing projects. In total, we have measured the carbon footprint for dozens of sites. Our calculations follow the method provided by the Ministry of the Environment.

Responsibility at Fira

Responsibility is a key part of our strategy. We are making construction more sustainable and reducing its climate impact. For us, responsibility also means taking social and economic responsibility and following good governance practices.

Our responsibility program covers environmental responsibility, social responsibility, and good governance. In 2022, we created a responsibility roadmap for 2023–2025. Based on this work, we added two new themes to our program: reducing nature impacts throughout the value chain and ensuring satisfied customers.

Fira has published a sustainability report on its operations since 2021. The reports have been prepared in accordance with the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) standards.

Fira as a Residential Developer

We build homes that reflect the people who live in them – and are safe to purchase. Fira was founded in 2002. In 2024, our revenue was €248.9 million, and our equity ratio was 30%. Fira employs around 250 people.

When you step into a home we’ve built, we want it to feel like it was designed just for you. That’s why Fira Kotona homes are planned based on the needs and wishes of the residents.
